You know how we love unique places to stay, well this time we went glamping in Spain and had a blast. If you don’t know what glamping is don’t worry, we will explain it all.
This summer there are no plans for any big trips. Our plan is just to enjoy our local area and maybe explore on a few little weekend getaways, no more than a couple of hours away. While Lars was away for 2 weeks volunteering for Pueblo Ingles Teens, we decided to take a couple of small out-of-town trips. The added bonus without Lars around, was that Anya could invite a friend to come along. She was very excited about this.
Our first little adventure was a couple of hours away, for 2 nights just past Almería. It was at a 4-star golf resort, with all of the amenities. Anya invited her best friend and it was going to be her first time staying in a hotel! We all had a wonderful time and I plan to write more about that experience sometime soon.
The following week, we planned just one night away, but this time it was a different type of adventure. Instead of a hotel we were going to go glamping! None of us had officially been glamping in these types of accommodation, so it couldn’t come soon enough. Again, we allowed Anya to invite a friend, but at the last-minute things didn’t work out for her to join us. So this time it was Anya stuck with the parents all on her own. Oh the horror!
Unique accommodation in Spain and around the globe
The glamping movement is growing, and it’s time to check it out. Around the world you’ll find incredible destinations, each offering their own unique advantages.
We’ve stayed in a cave house in Granada, and in Thailand you can wake up in a treehouse or at an eco-lodge with elephants. I just love seeking out different experiences and trying out unique places to stay! This time we were about 50 minutes from home, just south of Granada city center and we were in for a treat!
Our glamping getaway
Because the location was so close to our home (about 50 minutes away), I decided to explore a few other areas that have been on my wish list. All of which are within an hours drive, but in different directions. We first ventured a little north-west and checked out a small village, then worked out way to the east to get to the glamping location. Since we arrived in the late afternoon, it was a bit warm. First priority was to cool down, so it was straight into the pool. As you can see, Anya was very happy to find the big unicorn!
Since we were only staying one night, I didn’t bother bringing food for us to prepare in their outdoor kitchen. Instead they recommended a nice local restaurant just 15 minutes away, off of the highway. So off we went for dinner about 9:00pm and when it was time to exit off of the highway, we could see the twinkling lights of Granada. I quickly asked Alan and Anya if they wanted to go to this local restaurant or continue on for another 5 minutes and just go to the shopping mall in Granada. Knowing what was ahead, it only took 2 seconds for them both to reply with Granada!
Confession
The Nevada shopping center was the next stop and they have Taco Bell in their food court! Yes, we are those Americans! We miss Taco Bell junk food and don’t often have fast food, so it was kind of a no brainer.
I know, eating at Taco Bell isn’t much of an official glamping experience, but we were happy glampers.
How was sleeping in a yurt and tipi?
At first it was a bit strange, as we were way out in the country and had to get used to the lack of noise. We sleep every night with the sound of the sea, so it was strange to be outside, yet safely in a yurt or tipi. The cap of our yurt was open, so we could just look up and see all of the beautiful stars in the sky, it was amazing. Each of our accommodation choices also had little twinkle lights set up for a nice glow in the room too. It was a special experience and next time we need to stay longer!

WHAT IS GLAMPING?
Glamping is where your love for nature and the outdoors meets a little luxury. It’s a unique way to experience remote surroundings without having to sacrifice creature comforts. The way we travel has changed and many people are seeking out a little more adventure. The standard one-size-fits-all vacation isn’t for everyone anymore!
We want to create experiences, explore on our terms and step a little more outside of the box. The glamping definition is a fusion of the words glamour and camping and it’s the best of both worlds.
Glamping in Europe and beyond!

Glamping Tents

Glamping domes
One of the best glamping structures, are the geodesic domes, due to its robustness, easy assembly and ecofriendly. It is pretty easy find glamping domes online and stay in cool places around the world. Our experience glamping in Granada with the Nomad Xperience allowed us to choose the glamping dome, which they call an igloo. Their structure was a dome, but made from wood and slate, with beautiful wood floors, also offering a kitchen and bathroom.

Glamping in Spain
If you are considering a trip to Granada Spain and want to experience glamping with kids, the Nomad Xperience is the place for you. They have so much to offer for a romantic getaway or a safe and fun place for kids. At the time of writing, they offered 4 different experiences to choose from, a yurt, a tipi, a gypsy wagon and a glamping dome (igloo).
We were able to choose which we wanted and Anya immediately went for the tipi! I can’t blame her, as isn’t it every kids dream to stay in a tipi? Well, I wanted to stay in them all, but for years I’ve wanted to stay in a yurt. So that is what Alan and I chose, the yurt. They also had a beautiful and romantic gyspy Wagon.
We were only there for one night, but it felt like an amazing weekend getaway. At the property, there were so many different areas to explore and chill out, but it was really cool looking up at the stars at night, through the yurt. I just loved it.
We wrote a full review of the property on our Almuñécar Info site, so you can check out our glamping in Granada review here.
