  1. Hi Heidi, I am 62 years old and intend to move to Spain next year. Is there an age limit for private health insurance either for EU citizens or for US citizens coming to live in Spain?
    Thank you

    • It depends on the company. Almost all of them have plans starting for those 64 and younger. Once you are 65 and above only some have plans and then there are a couple who cover those more than 75. So, for 62 years old, you should be fine for any of them. Just get your quotes and compare coverage in the area where you want to live. Of course, if you are younger than 64 and already have insurance, there is not a problem to keep it when you are older.

  2. Hi Heidi! Great info here. What company would be good to get health insurance for a Spanish student going to visit the U.S. just for holidays and/or vacation?

    • Ah, the other way around. 🙂 First I would check to see if they are already covered with some sort of travel insurance, unfortunately the European Health Card won’t work in the USA. We do have a post on Travel insurance and I would reach out to them for a quote. I hope that helps.

  3. Confused! You state requirements of NL visa: No deductible (no additional fees, other than your annual policy cost)
No co-pay (no additional fees, other than your annual policy cost)
No waiting periods for coverage (access to everything right away)
    Repatriation is included

But Sanitas HAS wait periods, yet are promoted as Expat Insurance. I don’t get it.

    • Sanitas has several different plans to choose from. To get the NL visa, you will need to choose their plan with no copay, no wait periods etc… All insurance companies offer various options. Spain has recently stated it needs to be comparable to the national heath system, which has no fee for a visit and no waiting for an ailment. Speak with the agent and make sure you get the “right one” for your needs.
