Once you decide on a plan that is right for you an application must be submitted.  This also includes a medical questionnaire.  This is where any pre-existing conditions need to surface, as they could change the price or the way they write the policy.  Some health insurance companies may be able to provide you coverage, depending on the condition.  Some will also write the policy, excluding the condition (meaning you are completely covered except for your condition).  Others will not cover you at all.  Save yourself a little time and be upfront with this information.

As foreigners in Spain it is typical to use the private network of healthcare providers.  This is usually a network of hospitals, clinics, doctors, and specialists aligned with your given health insurance provider in Spain.  The networks offer several options for you to choose from.  If you are an EU citizen, you may also use the Spanish public healthcare system. If you have a European Health Card you, may use it for emergencies. If you are retired and have an S1 card in your country, you may also use the public healthcare system and use the S1 for your Spanish residency requirements.
