I don’t mean to brag (okay, maybe a little), but we are loving the fresh Strawberries right now! This is a family that loves their berries, but we are used to having them in the Spring/Summer only. They started appearing in the market about 3-4 weeks ago and we just can’t get enough.
The Carnaval season has sadly come to an end. We spent the kick of weekend experiencing Carnaval of Cádiz and had a wonderful time. It was good fun to listen and watch the Chirigotas and be part of the Big Carnaval energy. This weekend we were able to close Carnaval locally, in the small village of La Herradura.
Do you want to see choral groups, dressed in costumes, singing mainly through the streets of the village offering humorous song? Then you should see the Carnaval Cádiz Chirigotas. These groups are also televised for the main competition COAC, but often perform in the streets through out the week. The even have on-line voting for your favorite group.
The Carnaval of Cádiz is one of the best-known carnavals in Spain. The whole city participates in what seems to be a 10-12 day fiesta. Cádiz stakes claim to being the oldest continuously inhabited city in Spain and one of the oldest in all southwestern Europe.
Last Sunday there was a fundraiser to help children in Cuba and they were making some Paella Gigante in out village of Almuñécar. This was a special event on a beautiful day in January. We can hop over to nearby La Herradura any weekend night and get the same thing at El Chambao de Joaquin.
