The Women Adore Me In Spain

The title says it all.  In the interests of full disclosure, it’s really older women.  OK.  OK.  Not just older, but old.  And truth be told, it’s not women, but a woman.  I guess adore is a pretty strong word too.  Appreciate is probably a more apt description.  That’s about enough full disclosure for me.

The brief interaction I had today put an extra bounce in my step, and reinforces my love of Spain, and Almuñécar in particular.

¿Qué hora es? The Time Is

You barely make me out, but I’m there.

What happened?

I was running some errands near the center of town.  As I was walking by a store front, a voice called down to me, “¿Qué hora es?”  I looked up, and there was a little old lady looking at passersby, and generally just people watching.  She asked me again, and it took me a split second to figure out that yes, she was actually talking to me, and she was asking me what the time was.

I called up to her, “Son las diez y veinte.”  She couldn’t hear me and did the international sign of “I can’t hear you” by cupping her hand to her ear.  I spoke louder and clearer and told her (in Spanish) that it’s 10:20.

With that, she thanked me and blew me a kiss!  Yep, that made my day.  So I suppose that I should change the title to “There’s An Old Lady in Almuñécar that Appreciates Me“.  I think I’ll stick with the original.

Alan digs on technology and travel and is definitely the comic in the family. He's traveled all over the globe in search of cultural experiences. He has a fantastic wife and two great children that put up with his "humor", and luckily they all love travel as well. In Aug 2012, they sold their house and all of their possessions and moved to Spain to soak up the culture. He has written a book titled Live In Spain to help those wanting to obtain a Spanish Resident Visa. He also loves to write about the funnier side of the family's adventures.
