Over 17 years ago Alan and I fell in love with Amsterdam. We were living in London at the time and Alan needed to come over for business a few times. Of course, I would often come with him and roam the city, while he was working and then we would explore together in the evenings. Those were the days prior to kids, so we ventured to all parts of the city and tried to experience as much as possible. Now here we are returning years later with our kids, ages 9 and 12. While we were staying near Florence Italy, for the upcoming week we had scheduled a tour to see some Pagani supercars as well as the Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese Dairy in Modena. We were looking for some last-minute accommodation near Modena, Italy to ensure we had easy access to the tour locations.

Don’t worry, if you have a question for us, just ask! We are sharing our experiences, stories, budgets with all of you. This one gets a bit tricky, so pay close attention.
We traveled over 6000km in Spain & France and stayed in all types of accommodation. We covered it all from Luxury to Misery, ya know the “Get me out of here!” kind. We’ve completed our house sit in Morzine France and had an amazing time. We thought it would be a week of rest and relaxation, but it was far more than that. We had big plans of spending a week or two to make it back home to Almuñécar, with stops in Montpellier, Girona and more. But that isn’t how our the final week of our European road trip turned out.
Continuing on with our 8 week summer road trip, Alan requested the Guggenheim-Bilbao be included in our travels. See, I do let the family contribute! While we didn’t have plans to stay directly in Bilbao, I knew we would be passing on our travel day from Santander to La Rioja. It was going to be a short 2 hour drive and Bilbao would be just about half way. So let the travel day begin!
