We’d been doing a bit of moving lately, and it was time for us to get from Bangkok to Koh Tao, and once again we’re going to be riding the train. We did things a bit differently on this trip. We’re took the Sleeper Train! You better believe we were getting some AC this time.
She did it! Just a reminder for those of you just joining us. We set out on an Adventure333 (3 Generations, 3 Months, 3 Countries+). 3 generations (my 72 year-old mom – Gma Bev), to cover 3 countries (Laos, Vietnam & Cambodia), in just 3 months (November, December, January). Our amazing Adventure333 has come to an end and Gma Bev made it all the way!
I just love learning about new cultures. This go around, I’ll cover something the Wagoners experience learning about Argentine culture.
“Wait! Aren’t the Wagoners traveling around Thailand?! Shouldn’t you be talking about Thai culture?” Continue reading
If you recall, prior to hopping on the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, we’d already spent over 10 hours traveling. Yes, that was already 10 long hours in heavy rains, on the shuttle, ferry, and bus, just to reach Bangkok from Koh Chang. We also didn’t have any luck with purchasing tickets in the sleeper car or with AC. Nope, we were going in second class seats with a fan for 15 hours! Let’s just say none of us were overly thrilled, but it seemed the easiest and least expensive way to reach Chiang Mai.
As you know we spent one week in Bangkok Thailand. Of course since that was our first week in Thailand, we had to get used to the humidity, toilets and culture. Lars also stepped up to the plate and ate a scorpion on a stick; please check out the video! Following our time in Bangkok we envisioned a nice relaxing week or two at one of the islands in the Gulf of Thailand. The problem was, none of them were going to be a short journey from Bangkok.
If you recall, Lars decided to create an eating bugs challenge for himself. He wanted you, our readers to vote on which bug/critter/creature he should eat.
Eating Bugs Choices:
Beetles, Black Crickets, Brown Crickets, Grasshoppers, Scorpions, Tarantulas
You need to watch the video to watch Lars eating bugs and see which critter won! Continue reading
Heading in to this adventure, while seemingly confident on the surface, underneath I was a little worried. Worried about how the family would acclimate to Thailand, the food, weather and culture.
As you know, Lars loves to try new things, especially food. Well, he has an entirely new world to choose from here in Thailand and he is just going nuts trying new things. We have sampled many new fruits, but that was ease. Lars has now decided to attempt to eat some of the local creatures we are seeing on the streets. Well, not on the streets, but in carts for sell on the streets of Bangkok. He wants you to help him decide what to try.
Vote by Wednesday midnight eastern time. Continue reading
