Here in Spain we don’t have a dishwasher, but we do have parents that wash the dishes. As of last week, there is a new dishwasher in the house and her name is ANYA!
I wanted to start doing the dishes because my parents do a lot for me and I wanted to help out more. I wasn’t sure if they would let me, because I can’t reach the top drying rack and there are knives too. So I asked if I could and they said YES, right away. Mom helped show me how she does the dishes.
Mom’s dish washing style
- Fill up a large bowl or pot with hot soapy water.
- Rinse off all of the dirty dishes and organize them on the counter.
- Put all of the silverware into the hot soapy water, so they can soak.
- Start washing all of the dishes and leave them soapy in the sink.
- When the sink is full, rinse all of the dishes and place them in the rack to dry.
- When all of the dishes are drying, it is time to do the silverware.
- Each piece is washed by itself and then when they are all done they are rinsed.
- Then it is time to clean up all of the water, all over the counter.
The next time I did the dishes, Mom suggested I ask Dad to see if he does them differently. So Dad showed me how he does them and it is a little different.
Dad’s dish washing style
- Rinse off all of the dirty dishes and organize them on the counter
- Fill up the sink with hot soapy water.
- Put all of the silverware into sink, so they can soak.
- Put all of the dishes in the sink to soak as well.
- Start washing all of the dishes and leave them soapy on the counter.
- When the dishes are all done, it is time to do the silverware.
- Each piece is washed by itself
- When they are all done everything gets rinsed and placed in the rack to dry.
- Then it is time to clean up all of the water, all over the counter.
I like do the dishes because it is really fun and I get soaking wet. Sometimes that is good because it helps cool you down, except when the water is hot. I like to do the dishes both ways, except I have an extra step for each one. I not only have to clean off the counters, but I have to dry the floors when I am done.
Do you like to do the dishes? How do you wash dishes?
In the past year, I broke 2 dishes and that wasn’t even when I was doing the dishes. I hope I don’t break my mom’s favorite mug.
I had a bad experience on my first time being a dishwasher because I broke the favorite mug of my grandfather. But I learned from it 🙂
Thanks Kerri. I hope to meet Sydney one day. I think we would have fun.
You made me smile today Anya! Love your post on how to do the dishes!
Melanie, my parents make me try to embrace the culture! I like it for now, but when we go to Asia maybe I can stop.
Carol, I wish we had a dishwasher too, instead of me and my parents. Miss you, I hope you like Florida.
Wow-you’ve gone all European Anya! Believe you me, the novelty will wear off! 😉
I’m happy to have a dishwasher!!!!!!!!!!
Good job.
Love,
Carol
