This is a very small but popular restaurant. Located right off the main beach road in Chaweng Beach. The food was absolutely delicious and probably the freshest we’ve had on the island. Alan wasn’t able to make it out to dinner with us, as he wasn’t feeling well, but the kids and I enjoyed our evening out together.
Khaw Glong Restaurant – The Food
We arrived for dinner just before dusk and the ambiance was wonderful. All of the candles were lit and we enjoyed a bit of time to chat with Isa, the owner, and her husband. They thoroughly explained the menu to us and we ordered appetizers.
We started off with spring rolls, but Isa really wanted us to try the chicken in pandanus leaves. I am thrilled hat she did, as it was a kid favorite!|
For our main courses, we ordered the following:
- Cashew chicken – This is what Anya ordered, but she ended up taking my Green Curry from me. I loved this dish as it was loaded with cashews and chicken. Many times this is served too sweet for me, but this was nice and tame.
- Green curry – With a bit of a kick to it, Anya swiped it from me. She is our spicy girl and loves a bit of chili in her Thai dishes. It was very creamy and filling. We had to take a little back home with us to feed a sick dad.
- Shrimp with Broccoli – Lars cleaned his entire plate and that rarely happens, so that must say something about what he thought of this meal. He really enjoyed it!
- The kids topped it all off with pineapple shakes.
All of it was really delicious and absolutely the freshest food we have had since we’ve been on the island. We all enjoyed our meals and our plates were empty at the end of it all. This was very intimate and classy Thai restaurant.
Khaw Glong Restaurant Owner
The owner Isa is pretty classy as well. We met her and she was very shy, but an excellent chef. She is originally from Bangkok and relocated down to Koh Samui. She noticed there was a shortage of good authentic Thai food, so she opened up her own place a few years ago. They are busy enough to need to expand, and are looking at options to do so. We also were given a peek at the long and small kitchen where the magic happens.
It was loads of fun. We arrived at 6:30pm and had our choice of table, but by 7 it was full. Many arrived and had to wait for a table, so it is the place to be for sure. If you are looking for something nice and not too expensive, Khaw Glong Restaurant is your place.
