Well another year has passed and we are still living in Spain! That is exciting for us, as we never dreamed we would be able to keep it going. We just wanted to provide you with a quick little update with no frills attached!
We have wrapped-up our Epic 8-week Summer Road Trip, and a couple of the quirky things that came to mind were:
- The amount of driving we did;
- Our road trip playlist;
We’ve completed our house sit in Morzine France and had an amazing time. We thought it would be a week of rest and relaxation, but it was far more than that. We had big plans of spending a week or two to make it back home to Almuñécar, with stops in Montpellier, Girona and more. But that isn’t how our the final week of our European road trip turned out.
Typically our limit for close and fast paced travel is about 6 weeks. This is the threshold when we notice we are all a bit more snippy with each other and are just flat-out tired. After traveling non-stop for 5 weeks, we began our 6th week of travel on our longest drive yet. This time we were making our way from La Rioja Spain to Bordeaux France. Keep on reading to see how we did for 1 week in France.
Okay maybe Rioja wine isn’t your thing, but we absolutely love it and were very excited to be staying near Logroño Spain for the week. This was now the start of week 5 of our epic 8 week road trip around Spain & France. Okay for all of you in the USA, this is like staying in Napa Valley California or Champagne France! It’s wine country, and we had no trouble finding opportunities to drink wine.
Continuing on with our 8 week summer road trip, Alan requested the Guggenheim-Bilbao be included in our travels. See, I do let the family contribute! While we didn’t have plans to stay directly in Bilbao, I knew we would be passing on our travel day from Santander to La Rioja. It was going to be a short 2 hour drive and Bilbao would be just about half way. So let the travel day begin!
We did it again! It was time to explore another city in Spain, while on our 8 week European road trip. This time we were riding the double-decker Santander Bus. Yes, another Hop On Hop Off bus tour, but this time we created a twist.
When anyone mentions Northern Spain, Asturias immediately comes to my mind. If nature is what you are looking for, the mountains are blanketed with green trees, sprinkled with rambling rivers. All of which kiss the coast and create gorgeous beaches and postcard photos. You can experience extreme adrenaline sports or just a float along the river. Of course you will want to eat and drink your way around the area as well. Don’t let its size fool you, Asturias is a small, but power packed autonomous community in Spain. Come along with us and Visit Asturias!
We had just 48 hours to enjoy things to do in Salamanca with our kids. Now that our kids are a bit older, it seems we are finding more and more to enjoy. Our original plans for our 8 week European road trip were to spend at least a week in each place. Well, that went out the window when we knew we would be passing by locations we wanted to visit as well. Salamanca made it on our list for 2 days, and it was wonderful.
