I will admit that I’ve been waiting to write this post for some time. The reason I’ve been waiting so long was due to the fact that we needed to be in Kuala Lumpur. Once we got here, it wasn’t a matter of IF, but WHEN we were going to see the views from the Petronas Towers. What can I say? The Engineer in me just loves this sort of stuff!
So far I have traveled to 50+ countries in my lifetime and I have to say, I fell in love with the nature and beauty in Langkawi, Malaysia. I am almost hesitant to tell you about it, as I don’t want tourism to spoil what we have experienced. At the same time I wish you could all see this place. I know I have more of the world to see, but Langkawi Malaysia ranks very high for us. Come with us as we show you our guide to Langkawi, and check out all of the fun things to do in Langkawi with kids. Continue reading
We were fortunate enough to experience two different resorts during our week-long visit to Langkawi. Langkawi is made up of a cluster of 99 islands, which are all part of the UNESCO World Geopark as of 2007. The first few nights we were at the Meritus Pelangi and our last few nights we had the pleasure of experiencing something a bit different. We stayed at the Berjaya Langkawi Resort in a rainforest! Who wouldn’t want to stay in a tropical rainforest right?
As we have spent the past several months exploring Southeast Asia, we kept hearing people mention how beautiful it was in Langkawi, Malaysia. If at all possible, we were going to try to make it to this island to test it out on our own. After spending over a month in Southern Thailand it was time to make our move to Malaysia.
I originally planned to take the ferry from Phuket, Thailand to Langkawi, Malaysia. After some thought, I realized the family just wasn’t going to be up for a full day on the ferry and we found extremely inexpensive flights from Krabi to Penang. A new plan was hatched based on the deals we found. I know you are wondering, “So how did you get to Langkawi?”
It’s all the rage around town. Signs are up along the road. Escape Room! Curiosity has the better of us, so of course we look it up. It is an escape game like the one Alan and Lars played in Budapest last year, with Mindquest! The family was very excited and really wanted to give it a try. Time for the Wagoner Family to tackle the Escape Room Penang.
When planning our time in Penang, we knew we wanted a “normal life” feel, for a couple of weeks. We rented a 3 bedroom condo in Batu Ferringhi area and also decided we wanted to rent a car. That would give us a little break from hotel and public transportation life and help us recharge our batteries. We were thankful we had the opportunity to work with Europcar Malaysia for our car. It is a company we’ve often used in Europe, so we were excited they were also in Malaysia.
If you know the Wagoner Family, you know we love to take Hop On Hop Off Bus when we can. We find it fun and easy to get around a location with the kids this way and it has yet to disappoint us. Remember our time on the Original Bus Tour in London and in the rain when visiting Portugal? Well, this time we did experienced it island style with Hop On Hop Off Penang (HO HO). We found it a bit funny that it is also called HO HO! Instant thoughts of that delicious Hostess product or even Santa!
We’ve been on the go go go for many months. As a family, we’ve seen some amazing sights, met fantastic people, and in the process, crossed off some items on the Wagoners Abroad Bucket List. This latest excursion however, is just for Heidi and Me. We are having a Spa Experience at Chi, The Spa at Shangri-La Penang.
After a wonderful 5 weeks in Southern Thailand, including a family vacation, it was time to move on to a new country. This was to be a weekend of milestones. Alan and I were celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary and Lars and Anya were heading to country number 25. Hello Malaysia!
