We are still awaiting our resident card renewal with high hopes it will be approved. In the meantime, I am dreaming of our next Bucket List destinations in Spain. I know we started this list in another post and I have been doing even more research. Actually, I really should make a bucket list post for the world! That would be fun. I thought I would start a series of posts with our Bucket List destinations and we will start with Spain.
I have been looking into going to Morocco this fall/winter as it will be warmer there, not that I am complaining our location at all. Anyway, I noticed there was a cluster of islands off of the west coast and I was a bit curious. Also, one of our friends/readers, Fadi, commented on our must see in Spain post and suggested Tenerife. Then a fellow travel blogger published a post on the Canary Islands and what do you know it is the same location and they are “Spain!”.
So of course I am taking this as a sign that I need to start looking into this location as well. We have nearly 3 weeks off school over the Christmas holiday and we’re toying with the idea of going to London. So I started checking flights from there, Monarch flights to Tenerife, as that is the island I have heard the most about. This way I could see how much it was going to cost to add a warm destination to our holiday as well. Of course I also check out the Tourism Board and this is looking like a bucket list item for sure. Tenerife has two World Heritage sites, loads of protected nature parks, volcanic landscapes and sandy beaches. We don’t have sandy beaches in Almuñécar, so that would be nice.
This is a group of islands, so I needed to check out the others as well. There are seven islands in total: El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. They all looked great and I noticed Lanzarote holidays with Monarch had some really good deals as well. I am not sure we would do a packaged holiday, as I tend to like to figure it all out myself, but it is great for research. Lanzarote has a very cool looking nature park called Los Jameos del Agua. The volcanic landscape on this island looks amazing too. The kids would just go nuts for this type of holiday.
Oh, all of this research makes me want to go! I sometimes wonder if I shouldn’t even look sometimes. So now you can see we officially have the Canary Islands on our Spain Bucket List, and will likely begin to create more of a World Bucket List in the future. Of course we will share our lists with you along the way and hope that you feel comfortable chiming in. Let us know if you have visited and what we should see/do if we end up going. Perhaps you would like to warn us and say “forget about it”.
