“Miss” List

Consumables we miss from USA:

  1. French’s Mustard  (we found this about 90 min away for about $4 for small bottle, didn’t buy it)
  2. Dill Pickles – I miss hamburger dill chips.  I was thinking of asking McDonald’s if I can buy theirs.  We can only find sweet pickles, gherkins, pepinos, pepinillos.
  3. Crystal Light Lemonade
  4. Dr. Pepper (Although we did find a little import shop that sells it for $1.50/can, also just found  about 90 min away for about $4 for a 1.5 litre bottle, did buy one)
  5. Red Vines Licorice
  6. Grape Jelly
  7. Bagels (Everything and Sesame)
  8. Pancakes / Aunt Jemima Syrup
  9. Fortune Cookies
  10. Salad Dressing (Hidden Valley Ranch powder)
  11. Miracle Whip
  12. Tootsie Rolls
  13. McCormick Taco Seasoning
  14. McCormick Perfect Pinch Basil and Garlic Seasoning
  15. Amazon wish list (just in case you come visit)
  16. Sloppy Joe’s (Manwich)
  17. Nestle Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  18. Lipton Onion Soup Mix (great for dips and roasting potatoes or chicken)
  19. Altoid Mints

    • Thanks mom. Toothpaste is fine over here. As far as pancake mix, there isn’t anything like it. Without syrup, no need. 🙂 So far no complaints about missing pancakes.

  1. You might be able to make pancakes from scratch without mix. Flour is ‘harina de trigo” and I beleive we are able to buy baking powder too. Also, I have ordered stuff from Amazon.es and Amazon.uk.co; they will ship to Spain if Amazon is the seller but I’m not sure about food items. Our local grocery store (Mercadona – which is a big chain in Spain) has Hellman’s Mayonaise (how can anybody eat Mirace Whip? yuck – ha! ha!). Good luck!

    • I made pancakes from scratch this weekend, and they actually turned out fairly well. All we need is some decent syrup. I would love to get my hands on some Hungry Jack Butter flavor syrup, or some Aunt Jemima. I’ll check out Amazon.es and see if they have anything interesting that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

      Thanks!

  2. The hardest part about travelling or living abroad is that you never know what will be available from your home country and what will be unavailable.
Wishing you and your family all the best!
